It’s the middle of March, folks. You all know what that means. With Spring coming, soon the weather will warm and we’ll all be able to spend our days enjoying nature. Or you know, stay inside and play some new video games. We’re just about at the end of the first quarter. Savvy gamers/hobbyist economists know that the first quarter is the dry season of the video game calendar. This is the time of year many publishers sit out and rest until their customers are no longer broke from the holidays. Those who don’t usually do so to avoid competition in the fourth quarter. But now that we’re entering the second quarter, the schedule is finally kicking into gear. Let’s see what we have to look forward to.

April 16: Injustice: Gods Among Us

We’ve talked about this game before here on GamerSyndrome. Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game based on characters from the DC Comics Universe. This game has a cast full of great characters, from Cyborg to Lex Luthor. One of the highlights of this game is its interactive environments. If there is a car on the level, Batman could blow it up, while Solomon Grundy may throw it at his enemy. This is looking to be the best arcade fighter to be released this year.

May 14: Metro: Last Light

This game is the sequel to the 2010 game Metro: 2033which was based on the amazing novel of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky. The story takes place in the underground metro system of Moscow roughly 20 years after a nuclear attack on Russia. The first game was a cult hit among gamers. It set itself apart from other games with its heavy focus on atmosphere and the wonderful balance of first-person shooter, survival horror and stealth with a few RPG elements thrown in the mix. Metro: Last Light is looking to be even better than its predecessor.

June 14: The Last of Us

This game has really been getting a lot of attention. The Last of Us is a PS3 exclusive by Naughty Dog, the same people who gave us the Uncharted series. The game takes place after society has fallen apart due to a zombie apocalypse. The player controls Joel as he tries to survive with a young girl named Ellie. Unlike Telltale’s The Walking Dead, the girl isn’t put into a helpless role, and can handle herself pretty well. The Last of Us has been getting a lot of coverage  which shows just how excited people are over this game. I’ve never known Naughty Dog to make a bad game, so I look forward to this.

What new video games do you look forward to in the second quarter? Tell us in the comments!
