Samsung released a super-slim LCD monitor designed to be used in hospitals, large shopping malls, and airports.
Samsung unveiled the 460UTn, a large LCD monitor with an super-slim bezel that is thin enough to install a number of screens right next to each other, minimizing the disconnection among the screens to make it possible to set up a huge ‘video wall’.
The monitor is 46 inches long with only 4.3 mm thick in its left bezel and 2.4 mm thick for its right bezel, reducing the space between each monitor screens to a mere 7.3 mm, which is a 75 percent reduction compared to the previous model.
Independent of the shape of the wall, the monitor is able to be installed with the lines in a wall as it tilts outwards up to 40 degrees.
Samsung said, “The monitor won the CES 2009 Innovation Award and it also proves the competitive edge of the new monitor.”

From Wii, Nvidia works with PS3
Author JoeDigital | 24.03.2009 | Category Technology, Video Games

After Nvidia introduced the PhysX SDK to Wii, they have just announced that they will do the same for the PS3, adding to the now list of five systems where the the PhysX engine is available, namely Windows, Linux, Xbox 360, Wii and PS3.
PhysX is a middleware provider which specializes in hardware acceleration, resulting in better graphics performance such as gaming in the case of Wii and PS3. Video games that support hardware acceleration through PhysX technology allows acceleration through PhysX PPU or GeForce GPU (Cuda enabled) so that it can perform more tasks at once – resulting to smoother gaming performance.
While Nvidia Content and Technology Senior Vice-President Tony Tamasi says that adding their middleware technology to Nintendo Wii allow the console to have more “realistic game environments”, doing the same for PS3 will likewise allow a more realistic gaming experience that will “redefine reality for a new generation of gamers.”

USB Warm Slippers
Author JoeDigital | 19.03.2009 | Category Consumer Electronics, Innovation, Technology

It’s amazing (and funny) what Japanese technology is doing with USB nowadays. Thanks to Thanko, now we’ve got USB slippers warming our feet during those cold nights. These electronic plush slippers are charged and powered through (you guessed it) USB so that it can warm you up whenever you need it.
The good thing about this particular product is that it functions wirelessly. This means that the slippers don’t have to suffer the same fate as other USB devices that need to be constantly close to your laptop or PC, otherwise they can’t be plugged into the computer. One just can’t imagine not being able to walk around because the USB cable of your slippers will snap. That wouldn’t make sense.
In fact, the slippers work virtually by themselves. The USB is meant for charging purposes only. Furthermore, if you can’t access any USB port at the moment, you can also use its AC Adapter as an alternative. Surely at only $42, this is a convenient way to warm your feet up.

3D Baseball Cards on Webcam
Author JoeDigital | 13.03.2009 | Category Innovation, Technology

Well it looks like the baseball card industry is starting to come up with something new to market itself with. But considering its stagnant status for the past 50 years, it is indeed about time something new has come up if they even want to survive.
The new card (pun intended) that this industry is dealing involves Topps, who takes baseball cards and applies augmented reality technology on them, which allows users to see a 3D image of the baseball player featured in the card by simply presenting the card before any webcam. The image would then be projected on your computer screen. You can turn the card around for different angles of the player – it’s almost like you’re looking at a miniature figure of the athlete.
This gimmick by Topps could probably be the big break that the baseball card industry is waiting for. With the craze of other augmented reality toys appealing to the young people going on recently, it won’t be far that these 3D baseball cards will be a hit as well.
