Cool Bluetooth Sunglasses

Author JoeDigital | 20.03.2009 | Category Innovation, Telecommunications

Yes, this is a pair of sunglasses and, if you’ve guessed it, it’s a Bluetooth hands-free set as well. Great isn’t it, how innovators actually can come up with an idea as cool as it is efficient like a Bluetooth hands-free pair of sunglasses.

At first glance you can say that the sunglasses aren’t too shabby. In fact, they seem like the type that can look good on anyone who wears them. So you won’t be wearing the thing because you have to – you wear them because you look good in them.

More importantly, the glasses have Bluetooth 2.0 standards and it can work with virtually any phone that has a Bluetooth. It also has a talk time of 3.5 hours and a 90 hour standby time if fully charged. These are very decent, if not relatively good specs for a device like this.

So if you’re looking for a good alternative to a ridiculous device hanging around your ear, then try these shades on for size.

USB Warm Slippers

Author JoeDigital | 19.03.2009 | Category Consumer Electronics, Innovation, Technology

It’s amazing (and funny) what Japanese technology is doing with USB nowadays. Thanks to Thanko, now we’ve got USB slippers warming our feet during those cold nights. These electronic plush slippers are charged and powered through (you guessed it) USB so that it can warm you up whenever you need it.

The good thing about this particular product is that it functions wirelessly. This means that the slippers don’t have to suffer the same fate as other USB devices that need to be constantly close to your laptop or PC, otherwise they can’t be plugged into the computer. One just can’t imagine not being able to walk around because the USB cable of your slippers will snap. That wouldn’t make sense.

In fact, the slippers work virtually by themselves. The USB is meant for charging purposes only. Furthermore, if you can’t access any USB port at the moment, you can also use its AC Adapter as an alternative. Surely at only $42, this is a convenient way to warm your feet up.

The list is followed by a couple more of the very obvious outcomes like the PC and laptop computers, cell phones or mobile phones, e-mail and DNA technology such as imaging and sequencing. But to get on with the top 20, here’s what was published by the New York Times:

  2. PC and laptop computers

  3. Mobile phones

  4. E-mail

  5. DNA testing and sequencing

  6. Magnetic resonance imaging

  7. Microprocessors

  8. Fiber optics

  9. Office software

  10. Laser/robotic surgery

  11. Open-source software

  12. Light-emitting diodes

  13. Liquid crystal display

  14. GPS devices

  15. E-commerce and auctions

  16. Media file compression

  17. Microfinance

Minoru 3D Webcam

Author JoeDigital | 17.03.2009 | Category Computers, Consumer Electronics, Innovation

While this funny little Japanese gadget is already cute enough because it looks like some little robot, the Minoru 3D Webcam is made cooler because of its distinct feature as a webcam – it can record films in 3D.

The little gadget uses the same principle of 3D as those movie clips you watch in the amusement park where you get to see things actually flying out of the big screen while the movie goes on. Because of this, you also need to wear those red and blue glasses in order for you to be able to enjoy its full 3d effects.

Minoru doesn’t lack in convenience, either. It doesn’t need any kind of special software for installation and can very much work with any kind of popular instant messaging software like !Yahoo Messenger or Skype. With its quality and fun features, you can even use it to make videos on YouTube. This is one fun gadget you don’t want to miss.

Sound Control UFOs

Author JoeDigital | 16.03.2009 | Category Innovation, Technology

Japanese toys are really cute and funny, which is probably why so many people want them even if they aren’t as high-end as other products like top mobile phones or laptop computers. Take Gakken’s Sound Control UFO, for example.

This is a kind of toy where you should not throw away the box like you always do. This is because in lieu of a controller, this is what you use to operate what’s inside it. The toy is a little UFO that you can control by making particular sounds from the box that came with it.

The entire set costing US $51 includes a series of parts and stickers that will let you build your own robot, which you will later on be able to control with the sounds that you will produce to make it under your command. If you’re an avid collector of eccentric toys from Japan, then this is one you definitely don’t want to miss. Don’t forget – keep the box!

3D Baseball Cards on Webcam

Author JoeDigital | 13.03.2009 | Category Innovation, Technology

Well it looks like the baseball card industry is starting to come up with something new to market itself with. But considering its stagnant status for the past 50 years, it is indeed about time something new has come up if they even want to survive.

The new card (pun intended) that this industry is dealing involves Topps, who takes baseball cards and applies augmented reality technology on them, which allows users to see a 3D image of the baseball player featured in the card by simply presenting the card before any webcam. The image would then be projected on your computer screen. You can turn the card around for different angles of the player – it’s almost like you’re looking at a miniature figure of the athlete.

This gimmick by Topps could probably be the big break that the baseball card industry is waiting for. With the craze of other augmented reality toys appealing to the young people going on recently, it won’t be far that these 3D baseball cards will be a hit as well.

Yorozu Sound Revolution Kit

Author JoeDigital | 08.03.2009 | Category Innovation, Japanese Technology

It’s really funny how Japanese developers and technologists make their amusing looking gadgets while at the same time making it ingenious. The Yorozu Audio & Sound Revolution Kit is one of these gadgets. The set comes with a device that looks like a cardboard milk box which actually turns out to be speakers for the device.

In truth, however, it is just an ordinary milk carton that comes with the set. What the Yorozu Audio & Sound Revolution Kit actually lets you do is use almost anything as a speaker. With the help of a vibration extension which you can connect unto any surface (i.e. the milk carton), you can listen to the sound inside the Kit through that object.

You can even bring around with you this evidence for easy listening because it is portable. Whenever you feel like listening to music, you just need to grab a small box, your suitcase or some other thing you have with you and turn it instantly into an audio speaker.

Recycling In A Can

Author JoeDigital | 06.03.2009 | Category Innovation

Want to go farther in helping protecting the environment through eco-friendly technology than just using eco-friendly cell phones? Why not buy a recycling bin? Mode’s premium all-in-one recycling center is a nifty device that lets you conveniently sort out all your garbage and manage all the recyclables in your home.

While in face value the recycling can looks relatively larger than any mobile device, the Premium Recycling Center is actually compact in a sense that it can do all the recycling activity that used to be done manually with a couple of large trash bins that take up lots of space. It’s easy to use: just a step on a pedal and your can, bottle, or other trash is crushed and kept inside until you take them out. It also has a device that keeps record of the time when to take out the trash and it keeps track of how much recyclable material you have already disposed of properly.

While the entire thing is at least $249, Mode’s Premium Recycling Center might be worth spending on if you really are serious about helping the environment.
